Rising Above
“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you” – James 4:10
While we are gifted by God with talents and abilities that we may enhance the Creation we inhabit, we must be careful in the recognition of what God has given us. I believe
that humbling ourselves before God, acknowledging God’s centrality in our lives will keep us “focused” on not only the source and sustainer of our lives, but the source of our gifts, creativity, and ability to “make a difference” on behalf of humankind as we serve the Kingdom of God. Serving God with a whole heart will cause us to “rise above” self-serving attitudes and behaviors that James characterizes as “asking and not receiving because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures.”
-- James 4:3
Prayer: “O God, you have blessed and gifted me with not only the ability to accomplish great things in this world, but also with the ability to make the world a better place. I humble myself before you this day that you may direct my words, steps, and deeds in the way you would have me to go” -Amen

Senior Pastor
